The Gormley Package at the Ace Hotel

The Ace is only a couple blocks from Madison Square Park, and in the middle of the neighborhood-wide Antony Gormley Event Horizon sculpture exhibition. The hotel itself is full of art from local artists so it’s a neat place to stay.

Tonight: Neighborhood Tree Lighting in Madison Square Park

A 97 year old tradition continues tonight, on Tuesday, Dec. 8, when the Madison Square Park Conservancy’s annual tree lighting ceremony takes place in Madison Square Park. Once again, the Flatiron Partnership is one of the co-sponsors.
The Mad. Sq. Holiday program will get under way at 4:30 p.m. at the park’s Northern Plaza, with seasonal music provided by the New York Life Singers and by AudraRox, a rock band for children. Both groups have performed at the lighting in previous years.
On Christmas Eve in 1912, Madison Square Park was the scene of the first such event. It was the earliest community tree lighting in New York City, and one of the first in the nation. Some 10,000 onlookers were there, standing on freshly fallen snow, according to The New York Times, and thousands more came by for a musical show that entertained the celebrants until midnight. A 63-foot conifer, called the Tree of Light, was adorned by more than a thousand red, green, blue and white bulbs and topped by a glowing Star of Bethlehem. That occasion is today commemorated by the Star of Hope monument at the southern end of the park.

Breakfast at the Breslin

What better way to start out a Friday the 13th than with a yummy breakfast at the Breslin?
The Breslin, with quite an unassuming facade, is adjacent to the Ace Hotel main entrance and accessible from the Hotel’s lobby.
Just a few blocks from the office, it makes a perfect breakfast spot. The restaurant’s diners are a good combination of tourists and locals having breakfast before starting their day.
Breakfast started off with a full French press of strong delicious coffee ($7.50).
For the meal, the author and guest had the pumpkin pancakes with spiced chili pecan butter ($14) and skirt steak with green sauce and fried eggs ($17), respectively. The pancakes were unbelievably light and tasty; the steak was tender and perfectly cooked. Both dishes were delicious. (Check out the mouth-watering pictures below).
Service was very attentive.
It’s a great addition to the neighborhood.

Merchandise will include classic Chuck Taylors by Converse, Commonwealth Utilities ties, selected Opening Ceremony items, KEEP products, limited edition Lucien Pellat-Finet sneakers, American Apparel socks and one-of-a-kind Ace Hotel products.
