The Original NYC Virtual Office
How’s Virtual Life Treating You?
Are you a small business person working from home? Do you work remotely from your corporate headquarters? Are you working in your pajamas? Do you telecommute? If so, we need your expert advise on working outside of a traditional office environment.
We’ve asked the question lately:
Do you work virtually? If so, What do you miss most from a traditional office environment?
Chit-chatting over the water cooler? “Free” office supplies? Coffee breaks with colleagues? Birthday cakes? People? People was the most common response! Here are a few responses we received via Twitter:
@dockane: People.
@GretaKirkland: Sometimes I miss the people, but then I remember the whining about kids and stuffy noses and then I don’t miss them.
@GretaKirkland: Sometimes I miss someone to help with a deadline or if I need a break. I don’t get those.
As people are working virtually more and more these days, how do you handle the lack of personal contact? What do you miss from a traditional office environment? What are your tips and advise for people heading into the virtual world. We’d like to hear from you! Please submit your tips/ideas in the comments field at the bottom of the page.
Thank you in advance,
The Team at Manhattan Virtual Office.com

Wow, there’s so much I miss, and then, so much I DON’T! But to be honest, I do miss the day to day hustle, sometimes. I miss the “routine”, the mid-day lunches with co-workers. But then again, when it comes to weighing the pros and cons… being able to make my own schedule – working on my schedule, that’s just hard to make an argument against. Yes, I sometimes miss hanging-out with co-workers on a fixed schedule but, it so much better, to send time with the people who matter the most to me on my schedule, when I want, where I want. Being a virtual worker, for me and at the end of the day, is what I certainly prefer.

I have found that keeping structure to you day is important. If you discipline yourself and keep with a schedule it helps. Be showered and ready to work at 9. Have a coffee break and read the news. Take an hour for your lunch. Sneak in a personal call in the afternoon
