We have so many great places to see, things to do, and restaurants in the neighborhood. One we haven’t mentioned yet is a real jewel not only of the Flatiron District, but of New York City; and it’s not just our opinion: It has been voted #1 CitySearch and Spur Magazine (Japan’s #1 Fashion Magazine) for New Lounges/Bar and voted #2 by AOL CityGuide. It has also graced the “Editors Choice Top 100,” in Nightclub and Bar Magazine.
The facility consists of a Penthouse Lounge and a Rooftop Bar.
The Penthouse Lounge, with it’s 1940s modernist decor, seats 600. It has floor to ceiling glass windows, which affords views down the Hudson as far as the Statue of Liberty! The views offered are simply stunning. You can enjoy your meal while watching the sunset over your New York Office.
The Rooftop Bar – part of which is covered by very large, oversized umbrellas – gives you an upclose and personal view of the City – surrounded by palm trees. In the winter, heat lamps and red robes keep you warm.
It’s a great place to go for drinks and an early dinner after your meeting at the office. The Restaurant is open and serving food from 4pm to 4am / 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They are also now serving brunch every Saturday and Sunday with over 40 items at a very affordable $8-$12. You can check out their menu here. Space is also available for private/corporate events, birthday, and holiday parties.

Solar Flowers in Flatiron Plaza

We have a new temporary addition to the neighborhood: 18ft high plastic flowers – they aren’t only colorful and fun, they are productive. You can sit at the bottom of the flower and charge your laptops or cell phone and use the free WiFi – all of it powered by solar panels on the back of each flower petal. There are 5 flowers, each with seating for 10 people.
They are available everyday from 8am to 9pm ONLY through August 2. We would love permanent fixtures with these capabilities.
The flowers are an advertising campaign to bring awareness to the 3rd Generation 2010 Toyota Prius Hybrid. The theme: Harmony between Man, Nature and Machine.
Enjoy them while there here. They made their first stop in Boston. After NYC: Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

We finally stopped by the new Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership information booth. The booth has a supply of area maps and information cards on the free Sunday walking tours.

Happy 4th of July!
Our offices are observing the 4th of July Holiday (Independence Day) on Friday, July 3. We will reopen on Monday, July 6 at 9am.
If you are in town for the weekend, NYC has a plethora of events to celebrate the Holiday. Here are a few favorites:
Saturday, July 4:
Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks: 9pm Saturday night over the Hudson River. In honor of the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s 1609 exploration of the river, Macy’s has moved its annual fireworks display to the Hudson River. Macy’s has fireworks barges from 23rd Street to 50th Street. You can view on 11th and 12th Avenues. Most of the cruising companies have fireworks cruises, eg Circle Line. The fireworks are on the Hudson River this year.
Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest: The annual July Fourth International Hot Dog Eating Contest will return for the 94th year at the company’s flagship (Surf and Stillwell Avenues) store in Coney Island on July 4, 2009 at 12pm.
